Intervention to protect children when their parents are drug users is an important area of child welfare. However, the research and scientific knowledge about the subject does not always match what is available in the popular press or what is easily accessible to people working in the child welfare and related fields. Moreover, the research on this matter is constantly developing.
Come hear leading experts in the medical, legal and social work fields discuss evidence-based information about the effects of prenatal exposure to drugs, drug treatment that works for families, the extent to which evidence of drug use provides information about parenting ability, as well as discussion of the role of scientific experts and the legal and ethical principles in cases involving issues of drug use, drug testing, pregnancy and parenting.
*Co-sponsors include: National Advocates for Pregnant Women, NYU School of Law, and the Silver School of Social Work at NYU. This program represents a collaborative effort and a consultative process with legal services offices, child welfare organizations, grassroots parents groups and child advocacy groups.
* CLE and CEU credits for lawyers and social workers will be available.
* Breakfast, Lunch, and Snacks provided!!
